Mane-ly Long VS Mane N Tail

So I have decided to test out a couple of Horse Specific shampoos and conditioners on Elsa. Now I have come to expect things with a labeling "for horses" to be over priced. Often times you can find items just like the ones marketed towards horses for either other things or other animals marked drastically cheaper than the ones that specifically say "for horses". I wanted to see if this was true for horse shampoos as well. Now I have used Mane N Tail on my dogs for probably around 12 years now and have always been happy with it. (I have never used the conditioner before). It has always made my dogs soft, and made their colors pop. It is also only about $5 or $6 dollars per 32oz bottle. Which means for both shampoo and conditioner, I'm only spending about $12. I have been seeing a lot of people swearing by some horse specific products recently, and I wanted to see if they're REALLY worth all that money. Do they make an actual visual or even touchable difference? Well today I matched up my tried and true Mane N Tail against Mane-ly Long Hoar Care. *Shout out to Michele Lesser from Facebook who sent me free samples!!!!* Mane-ly Long is applauded by many horse owners as being the best shampoo and conditioner out there for horses. And it aught to be at $11.88 for the bottle of shampoo and $14.88 for the conditioner. Each only 16oz bottles, for a total of $26.76. You throw in the 4oz bottle of Detanglers/Polisher that Michele also sent me (which was not used today), that's a whooping $42! And since this product is rarely carried in stores, you're paying even more than that when you tack on S&H. That is A LOT of money to spend on some shampoo, especially compared to the total of $12 or $13 for the Mane N Tail.

Now let me quickly say what I did and why I decided to do it that way. (a tad important to understand)

I couldn't bring myself to trust any videos or other pictures I saw. Why? Because they were all dirty horses to clean horses. That proves NOTHING besides that the shampoo and conditioner can get dirt off a dirty horse. Of course that is always going to look like a huge difference. I started off with a freshly brushed horse. Got as much of the dirt and loose hairs off that I could. Then on one side, I used Mane-ly Long, on the other side, I used Mane N Tail. I also used one product on the mane, and the other on the tail. I'll let you guess which is which until the end. This way you really get to see and compare. It's the same horse, on the same day, at the same time. No sun fading between washes, no slight differences in coats between horses, nothing. You get to see and compare right then and there.

(PS, Elsa is NOT clean in these before photos. She has not had a bath since last summer. Her brushing done prior to the bath was only a quick once over with a stiff bristled brush, not a fancy 3 brush grooming. She has deep set in dirt and dust and her white feathering is stained brown near the ground. She is only that shinny because she is simply THAT healthy)

So how did it stack up? I'll let you decide before I give my thoughts on the two products.

Before

Afters

Verdict?

Honestly, I really don't see a difference visually. I washed both sides exactly the same, and the only difference I see is between the before and after shots. I don't really see a difference between the left side and right side. On her feathering, mane, and tail, I used conditioner, on the rest of her I used only shampoo. Neither got the stains out of her white feathering, although I sort of expected that. That's what I'll be testing Quic Silver on later this year. Both sides are really shinny, both sides had SUPER soft hair afterwards that was VERY easy to brush through. The only thing that I can say, is that I didn't have to use as much Mane-ly Long as I did Mane N Tail in her long hair. Mane-ly Long spread a bit easier and so went a bit further, but considering that Mane-ly Long is $12 a bottle for 16oz and Mane N Tail is $5 a bottle for 32oz, I don't think it really matters at all. You tell me if you see a difference, because honestly, I don't. Both sides of her look fabulous.

So which side do you think each product is on?

Ok, I'll tell you.

Mane-ly Long is on Elsa's Right side and her Mane

Mane N Tail is on Elsa's Left side and Tail *note*

I will be going back and seeing if maybe one side stays cleaner or softer longer than the other later. For now, there is no difference besides price and size between the two products in my book.

Please excuse the extremely crappy quality of this video. I have no idea why the phone can take great pictures but takes the worst videos.

Until Next Time!
